Photo metadata viewer and remover

Updated 22 October 2026 · By Hidy

Open a photo to see the location, camera and time data hidden inside it. Then save a clean copy with all of it removed. Everything runs in your browser: the photo never leaves your device.

What photos hide

How it works

  1. Your browser reads the file. For JPEGs, the page parses the EXIF block and shows what it finds.
  2. The image is drawn onto a canvas, which keeps only the pixels.
  3. The canvas is saved as a new file. No metadata is copied across.

On iPhone, without this tool

In the share sheet, tap Options and turn off Location before you send. Or open the photo, tap More, Adjust Info, Adjust Location, No Location. See how to remove location from iPhone photos.

For photos you keep

Hidy Vault removes location from photos and videos as it imports them, and keeps them encrypted behind a pattern.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The page reads the file with your browser and makes the clean copy on your device. You can turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.

What does the clean copy remove?

All embedded metadata: GPS location, camera make and model, lens, timestamps, software, and XMP or IPTC blocks. The copy is re-encoded from the pixels.

Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?

The metadata is read from JPEG files. Safari can open HEIC photos to make a clean copy; other browsers may not. In the iPhone share sheet, Options > Location off also removes location.

Does re-encoding reduce quality?

JPEG copies are saved at high quality (92%). PNG and WebP keep their format. For most sharing, the difference isn't visible.
