Disguised app icons: Calculator, Notes, Weather or Tasks
With Pro, you can swap Hidy's icon for one that looks like an everyday app: Calculator, Notes, Weather or Tasks. It makes the vault less obvious on your Home Screen. The name under the icon stays "Hidy Vault".
- Pro feature: Settings > App icon. Choose Calculator, Notes, Weather or Tasks.
- iOS shows a short confirmation when an app changes its icon. That's an iOS rule.
- The name under the icon stays Hidy Vault. The icon is camouflage; the pattern encryption is the protection.
What a disguised icon is for
Someone glancing at your Home Screen notices a padlock or a vault icon. A disguised icon removes that hint. It's a small layer of privacy against curiosity, not against a determined search.
The four icons
- Calculator
- Notes
- Weather
- Tasks
Choose one in Settings, or go back to the default blue Hidy icon at any time.
Hidy Vault keeps photos, videos and documents in encrypted vaults that open only with a pattern you draw. No account, no Hidy server. Free for 3 vaults.
What it hides, and what it doesn't
- Hides: the vault look of the icon on your Home Screen.
- Doesn't hide: the app's name under the icon, its entry in Settings, App Library, Screen Time or the App Store purchase history.
- Doesn't need to: opening Hidy still needs a vault's pattern, and the files are encrypted whatever the icon looks like.
To keep the icon off the Home Screen entirely, iOS 18 and later can hide and lock an app you downloaded: touch and hold the icon, then choose Require Face ID and Hide (Apple: Lock or hide an app). See how to hide a vault app on iPhone.
Why not a fake calculator?
Many vault apps open as a working calculator and unlock when you type a code. That disguise can be convincing, but the protection behind it varies a lot from app to app. Hidy puts the effort into the encryption instead, and keeps the disguise honest. See Hidy vs calculator vault apps.
Frequently asked questions
Does the name under the icon change too?
No. iOS lets an app change its icon but not its Home Screen name, so it stays "Hidy Vault". You can put it in a folder or hide it with iOS's own app hiding.
Is Hidy a calculator vault app?
No. It only borrows the look of a calculator icon. It doesn't pretend to be a working calculator, and your files are encrypted either way.
Can I switch back to the normal icon?
Yes, choose the default Hidy Vault icon in the same setting.
