Secure sharing: one vault, shared with one person at a time

Updated 22 October 2026 · By Hidy

Share a single vault, not your whole photo library. You create a 12-word invite, tell it to the other person privately, and they join from Hidy's lock screen. Files stay end-to-end encrypted: iCloud and Hidy can't read them.

Quick answer
  • Pro feature. Inside the vault, create an invite: 12 words, valid for 48 hours, one per person.
  • They choose Join a shared vault on Hidy's lock screen and type the words.
  • Removing someone stops future syncing. Copies already on their device stay with them.

Why share a vault instead of photos

Sending photos through Messages or a shared album puts readable copies in more places: the chat history, the other person's library, their backups. A shared vault keeps the files encrypted in the same place for both of you. Both see and add to the same files, and nothing lands in either camera roll.

How it works

  1. You create an invite. Hidy shows 12 words that can open this vault's key. They expire after 48 hours.
  2. You tell them the words privately, in person or in a message you trust.
  3. They join. In Hidy Vault, they choose Join a shared vault on the lock screen, type the words, and pick their own pattern.
  4. Both sync through the owner's iCloud. Files are encrypted on each device. iCloud and Hidy can't read them.

What removing someone does, and doesn't do

Share a vault

  1. Make a separate vault with only what you want to share. Don't share your main vault.
  2. In that vault's Settings, create an invite. Hidy needs the vault's recovery phrase set up first.
  3. Tell the person the 12 words. Make a new invite for each person.

The step-by-step version is in share a vault with Hidy Vault Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need the same iCloud account?

No. A shared vault syncs through the owner's iCloud. The person you invite uses their own device and Apple Account.

Can I unshare a photo after they've seen it?

No app can take back a copy someone already has. Removing a person stops future syncing; anything already on their device stays there.

How should I send the invite words?

In person, or through a private message you trust. Anyone who gets the words within 48 hours can join.

Is sharing free?

No, sharing a vault is part of Pro.
